rehabilitative exercise by eugene chiropractor

Corrective Exercises

At Conservative Pain Solutions, we educate our patients how to perform special exercises which are specific to them, and explain to the patient how these rehabilitative exercises can help strengthen and correct the irregularities and muscle imbalances in their body which may be causing pain. Most of these corrective exercises can actually be performed in the comfort of your own home to help improve the effectiveness of your chiropractic care and spinal correction plan. In addition to skeletal misalignment, you may be experiencing pain that is caused by muscles and connective tissues which are out of their proper place. Other types of pain such as back pain, neck pain, and headaches are caused by muscles and tissues that are being used improperly, causing injuries over time. In each case, targeted corrective exercises and stretches from our experienced chiropractor will help you feel good while also helping your body achieve balance and health.

Eugene chiropractor is a lifestyle coach

Lifestyle Advice

Many patients come to see our chiropractor to address a specific pain symptom such as back pain, neck pain or headaches. While our chiropractor will address each patient's specific condition with chiropractic care, we often find it helpful to "coach" our patients towards achieving a healthier lifestyle. For example, there may be certain activities of daily living that you should avoid or do differently to prevent yourself from unintentionally aggravating your particular health challenges. The goal of including lifestyle advice with a chiropractic care plan is to help each and every patient achieve the fulfilling and happy lifestyle they deserve, one that is full of the activities that are enjoyed most. We recognize that every single one of our patients is a whole person, and we use our expertise to help them reach total health and wellness and return to their active Eugene lifestyle.

Kinesiology Taping with RockTape

oly_tape.jpgMany of you have seen these strange strips on the shoulders and legs of athletes on tv, especially the highly visible shoulders of the womens beach volleyball team at the last Olympics. As a Chiropractor in Eugene, Oregon who provides care at Eclectic Edge Racing events I frequently get asked "How does this Work?" and "What can it do?".
For starters, let us first look at the brand that I choose, and why. I have used most brands of kinesiology tape out there, both on myself and on patients. I have settled in of my favorite brand, Rock Tape, because I found that the tape has more stretch, better adhesive qualities, lasts longer, and to date I haven't had anyone have a skin reaction to it.
So to answer "What does it do?", Rock Tape can be applied for decompressing, rather than compressing and restricting blood flow to an injured area, which when properly applied will promote bloodflow, thus aiding in swelling and pain reduction. How it does this is that the proper tension is placed on the tape which will stretch up to 180% of its relaxed length. The gentle retraction of the elasticity lifts the skin, relieves pressure of the underlying capilary beds, and thus promotes blood and lymph flow. This can be used to reduce swelling in an injured tissue, or conversly, help prevent injury by reducing fatigue, and cramping. Following an injury, it can be applied to compress and restrict motion, thus reducing the range of motion of the areas it is applied to, and aid in injury recovery.
The skin is full of stretch receptors (nerves) which give important information about the position of the body to the brain. This information can be manipulated with proper application of the tape to relieve joint, ligament, and tendon tension, thus reducing pain and correcting improper motion at the affected joints/tissues.
Rock Tape is made for competition, and is engineered to meet the high demands of endurance atheletes like runners, swimmers, cyclists, and even the weekend warriors. It is waterproof, and will remain on the skin for up to 5 days, even if you swim, shower, or sweat. The combined effects of this tape are powerful and will allow the user to "Go Harder, Longer".
Dr. Casey Ferguson DC, at Conservative Pain Solutions is skilled in the application and usage of this tape, and is happy to evaluate your specific needs, and apply the tape specific to what you need to optimize your potential, and train you how to apply the tape for yourself.
